Alison outside Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem

'Storytelling is a wonderful and understated art form which began somewhere in the deepest darkest beginnings of time. It's something inherent in us all. It's something that keeps us alive. And if you haven't witnessed a storyteller in action, then I thoroughly recommend the experience.' - Alison L R Davies

Alison began storytelling a few years ago. It was a natural development from the writing of stories to the actual act of performing them to an audience. She is part of the Storytellers of Nottingham who perform regularly, once a month at the Trip to Jerusalem pub in Nottingham. Each month has a different theme, from dastardly demons, to bawdy tales, from gothic horror to alternative fairy tales, you can expect the un-expected, but the one thing you can be sure of is an excellent night's entertainment!

Alison also runs storytelling workshops for adults and children. She has taken sessions in schools and devised specific courses for those interested in how storytelling can enhance teaching and learning. Alison has worked at a range of sixth form colleges, with both students and staff, she has also visited primary schools and libraries running storytelling sessions and projects. Her book 'Storytelling in the Classroom' has been adopted as an essential text by several univerities throughout the country on the PGCE course. She has also been invited to speak and lead sessions on creative teaching and learning by numerous universities.

Storytelling Workshops can be arranged for groups and organisations. These one day events are informative, light-hearted and fun, and can be carried out as part of a team building exercise, or to develop creativity and communication skills. Contact Alison here .
